The Achuar and Sápara live in the lowland Amazon Basin of what is Ecuador and Peru. There are roughly 16,000 Achuar and 650 Sápara. The only access to either group is by airplane, often followed by a hike and canoe ride depending on which small community one is visiting. Everything is harvested from the forest, and any actual cash is used for medicine, school supplies, solar panels and maintenance, or some construction materials.
